Mission Success!

Good news - Yode has survived his encounter with the Third Power agent, and has managed to secure some tickets. Hopefully he'll be able to post a full report for us later on. More importantly, it means that he'll be able to report for us from One Big Weekend, and try to thwart Cyrus' plan.

It turns out that it's not just us PxCers that are investigating this Frozen Indigo Angel mystery. Take a look at

Since then, he's been doing some digging about the whole thing, and has turned up quite a bit of useful information - in fact, it was Paul who found the original link to Silburn Griggs Mining, where the Project FIA site was hidden. He's also been collecting sightings of Frozen Indigo Angel - it's been seen on the Radio 1 website, DAB radios, Digital TV, and even heard mixed in to songs on Radio 1. At first he though that this was all something being planned within the BBC, but someone's now put him in touch with Violet, and he's been filled in as to Cyrus' background. You can track Paul's progress in a blog (and vodcasts) on his site.

One of the links that he's found is quite interesting: it's the "" for the Radio 1 systems, which contains information about the setup for One Big Weekend and what looks like the standard Radio 1 feed. Most of it seems like pretty normal stuff: DNA message board plugin, Live text tag cloud fetcher, Webcam server - pretty harmless stuff. There are a few other things which seem suspicious, though: FIA Modulator Feed, FIA Item Inserter, DAB Text Sync Override (is this what's causing Frozen Indigo Angel to be displayed on DAB radios?), and, "FIA Background Modulator - xxxxxx override v0.98". "xxxxxx override"? I've got a feeling that the censored word is going to turn out to be "neural", and the Cyrus is going to do a large scale test of his stolen neural override technology at One Big Weekend.

There is, however, some good news. Yesterday, Cyrus was arranging for distribute tickets for One Big Weekend to some of his agents in the Liverpool area. As it happens, we've got an agent in Liverpool too (Yodi) - and thanks to the very lovely Sue81 from the , he's heading down to Mathew Street tonight to pose as a Third Power agent, and collect some tickets. Sue81 solved Cyrus' , but can't make it to Liverpool or Preston, so has very kindly let us have the password that Cyrus sent to her. Yodi's going to take some surveillance equipment with him and report back to us afterwards. The Third Power are pretty dangerous, so I'm going to keep an eye on him remotely - there's a if anyone else wants to see what happens. If all goes to plan, he should be there between 19:00-19:30 BST (18:00-18:30 UTC).

Good luck, Yodi - we look forward to receiving your mission report.

When I checked out the that Bunnery posted below, two things jumped out at me. If you weren't involved in the hunt for the Receda Cube, then they probably wouldn't have meant much to you, but that seemingly innocuous symbol (at the top right of the Project FIA page) and the name will send a chill through any veteran cube hunters.

It looks like something serious is happening: the is still active on Earth, Cyrus Quinton (aka "V") is on Earth organising them from within Radio 1, and they're planning something major at Radio 1's "One Big Weekend" this weekend. We're going to have to move fast to keep up with the Third Power - anyone who has tickets to One Big Weekend is going to have to stay sharp and try to thwart whatever they're up to.

If you didn't get tickets to One Big Weekend, then there's still a chance that you might be able to get up there and try to stop them - but it's going to involve a bit of double-agent work. It seems as if Cyrus Quinton doesn't know that we've found the Project FIA page, and he's still using it to communicate with his agents in the UK. He's got hold of fifteen pairs of tickets for One Big Weekend, and will be providing them to some of his agents.

The good news is that he's underestimating our abilities - the only test you need to pass to try to get a pair of tickets is to . The bad news is that you need to be able to collect the tickets in person from various locations in the UK. Well, that and the fact that you'll probably have to pass yourself off as a Third Power agent... and that by going to One Big Weekend, you'll be putting yourself right in the middle of what's going to happen...

Curiouser and curiouser....

Hmmm - all this "frozen indigo angel" that Breadmower has mentioned prompted me to have a look around the Radio 1 website. Seems that Scott Mills has a strange thread running through his afternoon show concerning an employee who was dismissed for inserting those very words into podcasts and playlists. No-one knows why.

There is some discussion about the words too from people who've received emails from Radio 1 about their forthcoming Big Weekend in Preston. Here is some of what is being said:

"Its starting to come together… as far as I know here are the lyrics that have gone out with the emails.

Frozen Indigo Angel “Out again, a siren screams at half past ten” Frozen Indigo Angel

Frozen Indigo Angel “Listen to the silence, let it ring on” Frozen Indigo Angel

Frozen Indigo Angel “The air is clear, the ocean’s blue, I love that sound” Frozen Indigo Angel

The Killers - Change My Mind
Joy Division - Transmission
Alex Gaudinio - Destination Calabria (AKA Destination Unknown)"

Check out Matt Deegan's blog to read more. What has Preston to do with Perplex City? Can you shed any light on this??

OMW - I just found this:

(Anyone got a spare couple of tickets to the One Big Weekend at Preston??)

The problem with parcels

posted by Breadmower on Sun 13th May, 07 at 11:51:09

I managed to fire off a few tracer parcels whilst at work on Friday, and after keeping an eye on a few of them, I noticed that anything that was sent priority requiring delivery confirmation would get delayed. Interesting, though not much use on its own. Fortunately, Violet acquired quite an array of helpers on Earth during our search for the Receda Cube, and with that many people working on the problem, it was only a matter of time before .

Turns out that the delayed parcels are either being sent to the Apolyton Institute, or are parcels that look as if they're something to do with Apolyton. Violet called their switchboard, and tried to get some information out of them, but they denied all knowledge of any problems. A few hours later, though, from an insider at the Apolyton Institute. Seems that they know someone has been reading their mail, and they're conducting an investigation. The bad news is that it looks like this is all tied into something much more serious:

"The postal delays first began several months ago. They coincided with the disappearance of the plans for some extremely sensitive technology, developed by Apolyton purely as a theoretical exercise. The use of this technology is illegal in Perplex City, due to the extreme risk to human life. The stolen plans are for a "neural override" device. The danger is real, Ms Kiteway, though not to the people of Perplex City. We have learned that the plans were sent to an IP address on Earth - BBC Radio 1."

Demonstration System 14

posted by Breadmower on Thu 10th May, 07 at 21:53:42

So, today we got access to the that Ralph Kerrigan told us about yesterday (someone's obviously sorted things out so that we can get to it from Earth).

"This demonstration system sends live tracer parcels through the regular Perplex City Post service", it says, "This system is designed for use by potential business clients as a risk-free way of testing our capabilities, or by internal post office employees in order to monitor our system for performance issues. Because this demonstration does send real parcels, please use it responsibly."

Now the only problem is that we don't know quite what kind of parcels are getting delayed. At the moment, we only know of two people who are suffering from the problem: Gustaffsen (from ) and Cassia (a puzzle scribe from the Perplex City Academy). Not really much to go on there, and to make things worse the demonstration system has a myriad of options to choose from when sending a tracer parcel: destination, shape, weight, insurance, and so on. Looks like we'll need to send a whole set of these tracer parcels and wait to see which ones get delayed. Maybe we should see if Violet can find out what Gustaffsen and Cassia received in their delayed packages, so that we can narrow it down a little.

In the meantime, we'll just have to go with Plan A: systematically send different types of packages, and see which ones get held up. "Please use it responsibly"? Sorry to everyone at Perplex City Post - I think your workload is about to increase dramatically...

Let's Get Started....

posted by Bunnery on Thu 10th May, 07 at 07:51:41

OK - so Season 2 is just getting started - so it is an exciting time to get involved. What's been happening so far?

Well, seems that Violet has moved into the old part of Perplex City and set herself up as a Private Investigator. But, as usual, she needs our help!

So far she's had a spot of bother with her plumbing - and PxCers around the world have sorted that out for her already. Now, she is having concerns about the city's postal service - particularly the speed of parcel deliveries. Just imagine - they are no longer ALL arriving within 5 hours of being posted! Such inefficiency. Wouldn't be tolerated here!

Anyway - have a look here for the full story. Having checked out the Perplex City Post website, to try to find someone to contact, we drew a blank. However, not to be defeated Breadmower had noticed a letter defending the Postal service from an employee, in the Perplex City Sentinel. Using his knowledge of email protocol he made an educated guess as to what his work email address might be. So last night Bunnery emailed this Ralph Kerrigan, and to our amazement we received the following reply:

Do you know every morning the Postmaster General himself is asking me what's
being done about these delay reports? Do you have any idea what that's like? My
whiskers are so very singed over this 'parcel delays' rubbish, I can hardly see
straight anymore.

If you think you know the post system better than me, then be my guest and try
to prove it. Have a go at our demonstration system yourself -
days to set it up for where you're based, but it'll be done soon. Just be sure
to tell all of the other yapping complainers and certain scandal-mondering
newspapers that there's nothing to be found once you're done.

Ralph Kerrigan
Senior Vice Adjunct Postmaster General
Quality Assurance Division
Perplex City Post
"Perplex City Post never sleeps, so you can rest easy."

How exciting is that?? Nothing there yet - but they did say it could be
a couple of days before we see it here on earth. Just keep checking back....
