To www, or not to www

Rather embarrassingly, I've only just remembered that I hadn't configured the server to respond to addresses like "www.blogs.req.co.uk" (it would only pay attention to "blogs.req.co.uk"). I've fixed that now, so anyone who likes their Ws will be able to reach us.
Friends lists

The first part of the friends list system has been added - at the moment, you can add someone as a friend by going to their req.co.uk user page and clicking "add as friend". You can view your list of friends in brief on your user page, or in detail on your friends page. At the moment, there's not actually any detail, but it'll be expanded to show what they've been up to on the site recently.
Aside from just listing your friends, this doesn't really do much right now, but your friends list will be used by the new version of Mastermind (personalised leaderboards), and in the blog security section (so you can let just your friends see your blog)... probably in a few other places too.
Also, don't be offended if I've not added you as a friend - I'm going to put together a "friends of my friends" bit, and need to not be friends with some people who my friends will be friends with, so that I can test it (if you see what I mean) :-)
Delete avatar

The option to delete an avatar has finally appeared (about two months late). Sorry about the delay - got sidetracked with work... you know how it is.
Choose avatar when posting

Evening all,
Tonight's minor new feature is that you can now pick which of your avatars to use when making a blog post. Any posts that don't have a specific avatar set will just use whatever your default avatar is. I was intending to sort out an option to delete avatars, but to be honest I'm a bit tired, so I'm going to go and have a nap instead. Night :-)
Avatars for all!

Following a gentle nudge from Sharon, I've finished off the important bits of the personal avatar system (ie it now checks to see if you've actually chosen a file). If you pop over to the profile section of your user page, you should see a new "Upload a personal avatar section".
Now, there's no way to delete them at the moment (I'll do that some time this week), and you can have a maximum of three, so take it easy when uploading them. Right now they only appear on your user page, but they will start to appear in other places (they've already popped up on the top secret preview of the new Mastermind site).
Also, I apologise for the fact that the default avatars are... somewhat pathetic - artistic stuff isn't really my strong point! If anyone is good at designing avatars, then feel free to upload some and post a comment here if you'd like them to included in the default selection

Avatar bugfix

Following a rather helpful bug report from Laura, you can now actually change avatars. A minor oversight on my part meant that the "Change avatar" button didn't appear for everyone, but it's sorted now. Thanks Laura :-)
User page updates
posted by Breadmower on Thu 8th Feb, 07 at 21:03:20
As you might have noticed, there've been a few changes made to user pages recently. User pages now have a few sub-pages (currently: summary, profile, blogs), containing... well, I'm sure you can guess. The profile pages also contain a list of avatars for a user - yep, you can now choose an avatar for yourself which will show on your userpage and the users index. There's going to be a few more things you can do with avatars, but more news on that later.
Change primary blog

It's now possible to change which of your blogs is your primary blog by clicking the "Make this my primary blog" link in the "blog controls" sidebar panel. Note that this only appears when you're viewing one of your own blogs :-)
This update also implies the existence of another new feature that I haven't yet mentioned. I know that at least one person has found it, though ;-)
RSS feed changes

Some minor changes have been made to the RSS feeds for users, blogs and blog comments. When viewing the feed, the item description (ie the content) is now displayed as formatted text (a lot easier to read).
Editing

Another quick update - you can now edit blog entries. At the moment, a reader can't tell whether an entry has been edited, but shortly there'll be some form of indication.
