Email bugfix

posted by Breadmower on Sat 20th Jan, 07 at 20:30:45

Some changes have been made to make req.co.uk email messages (eg activation emails or password reset confirmation emails) less likely to be eaten by a spam filter.

Speaking of activation emails...

I originally registered with the username Will but never got an activation email, which is pretty unusual for me, but req was in a pretty early stage. I'm now getting codex score "spam" but can't log in or resend an activation email, or indeed contact req in any other way without registering again! Perhaps you should fix this...

I would say "beta", but that's a poor excuse...

Hey there Will,

Sorry about the email problem, and the fact that you've been getting the score emails with no way to unsubscribe. As you've realised, things are a little rough around the edges (like the absence of any way to resend activation emails, and the fact that inactive users are getting score emails (I've put that on the to-fix list, BTW)). There is an updated version of the site coming (hopefully soon-ish), though it keeps getting delayed by the fact that I've had most of my time eaten up by proper work recently. Still, that's no excuse for getting people into a situation where they're getting spammed with emails that they can't subscribe from. Apologies again.

What I've done is to merge your two accounts together, so that you just have the Will account, but it actually works (and you'll be able to tick the "don't send me any emails" box in Codex preferences). I've also assigned all of your previous Codex games to this account (as you seem to be doing rather well, and I'm sure people are hoping that you'll unseat Mr.Puzzlewit from the top of the leaderboard this week!).

Thanks for taking the time to get in touch, instead of just blacklisting the emails (I've also put "contact method for unregistered users" on the to-do list), and hope that you stick around for a while :-)
