What's this newsletter all about then?

Welcome to the Codex newsletter, where we bring you up to speed with what's going on at the site and - more importantly - let you know the results of the weekly leaderboard, and what accolades have been awarded to the movers and shakers this week.

No, wait - actually it's next week

So, last night (after a coding session), I was getting a bit stressed out because I'd got it into my head that today was Codex's second birthday, what with this being newsletter 104 (2*52). In fact, I'd even written half of today's newsletter whilst still thinking about it... until I thought about it a bit harder, and realised that it's not today, it's actually next week. See, we started with #1, so #52 is the last one of the first year, and #104 is the last one of the second year - meaning that #105 is the big milestone. Panic over. Seeing as next week is going to be the important one, I won't say anything about updates this week, and will save it for the birthday issue.

Aww, bit of a quiet week - only 5 players completing 121 games in total. Perhaps we'll manage to attract a few more people soon, but in the meantime let's see how the current names have done. Well, Sharon's up at the top with a final score of 4.08 over 12 games, winning this week's Bletchley award - nice work. On her way there, she also won Upgrade (improved by 1.02) and Open Relay (sent 35 games).

Receiving the most games this time was DOM (30, winning Secret Admirers), along with Turing (played the most solo games), Plaintext (set codes that took an average of just 4.33 guesses to find), Deep Thought (took 18:00:21 to finish a single game) and Brute Force (final average of 5.35 over 65 games - snatched from Smonkey, who was this week's frozen out player). Smonkey did, however, win a Downgrade award (for disimproving by 2.5). Finally Bin1 managed the fastest game (6 seconds, winning Quick Thinking), and Sarah won Enigma (set codes that took an average of 8 guesses to find).

Congratulations to everyone who won an award - they'll now be visible on your personal statistics pages so that the rest of us can marvel at your skills.
